New Zealands southern most city is Invercargill, which dates back to the 1850's. The reason for heading all the way south to Invercargill is the blue cod and the Bluff oysters which are world famous. It is also home to the Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter.
Invercargill is also a great base to stay while you take a trip to the near by stewart island with their historic bush walks and untouched beauty of the small island community. You can take the southern scenic route to Dunedin or the coastal road to the spectacular lakes of Fiordland.
